Why we need to support employee wellbeing

Workplace wellbeing

Employees spend a lot of time at work, whether that be in the workplace, at home or on the road. During a typical shift for most employees there will be at least one main meal from breakfast, lunch or dinner to be consumed. This will probably be alongside snacks.

This means that as an employer you have a real opportunity to support the wellbeing of your employees and make a difference to their mental and physical health through food.

There are many reasons to support employee wellbeing, both to benefit the employee and your business.

Eating a nutritious, balanced diet boosts the immune system and significantly improves general health and wellbeing. This reduces the risk of illness and therefore reduces the days employees take off sick.

Given that employees do spend such a significant amount of time working (approximately 40 hours per week), habits that are built at work such as eating well, have a good chance of being adopted into their personal life too. This means that employees overall wellbeing is being improved.

When we eat well, we feel good. We feel more alert, active and healthy. We’re more likely to exercise, do housework and generally operate in a more positive way when we’re feeling good. The impacts of eating well are widespread.

Organising healthy lunches for the team boosts morale and shows staff that you care. If your employees are nipping to grab fast food, popping to drive-throughs and snacking on cakes, providing them with a healthy lunch, even just once a week would be a welcome alternative and one less thing for them to think about.

A healthy workplace is a happy workplace. Here at Lean Lunch, we deliver to offices, bases or homes, so wherever your staff are, we can cater for them.

Employees want to feel valued. If you are showing that you value them they are more likely to stay long-term, be more productive and feel more motivated. The mid-afternoon slump will be a thing of the past!

Having a chef-prepared, delicious, healthy meal for lunch also encourages breaks. It makes lunch time something to look forwards to. Employees that take a proper break are more likely to continue the rest of the day feeling fresh and ready to go. This reduces the likelihood of overwhelm and stress. Research shows that ‘light bulb moments’ are more likely after a good break.

There are multiple ways that the Lean Lunch team can help you to give your employees wellbeing a boost and for you to see the benefits:

  • Register your company with us and enable staff to choose which meals, snacks and drinks they would like. We can deliver to you regularly or ad hoc. Our meals keep a couple of days and some are delicious heated-up, so whatever shift patterns you work, there’s something to suit! We can also work with you if you decide that your company would like to subsidise a scheme.
  • Book us for a fun, educational nutrition session – jam packed with interesting information and easy-to-action tips for staff to takeaway. We can deliver these virtually too!
